50th Hassan II Golf Trophy and 29th Lalla Meryem Cup: Fifty Editions of History, Influence and Development
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and under the Effective Presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association are pleased to announce the 50th edition of the Hassan II Golf Trophy and the 29th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup, which will take place from May 18 to 24, 2026 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.
The legacy of a vision
Founded in 1971 by the late His Majesty King Hassan II, the Hassan II Golf Trophy reaches the highly symbolic milestone of its 50th edition this year. At the heart of its creation was a founding vision: to make golf a vehicle for Morocco’s international standing, while firmly anchoring the Kingdom within a global sporting dynamic that reflects its historical and cultural identity.
Today, that vision fully aligns with the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, through which Morocco has consolidated its position on the international stage by making sport a tangible lever for development.
This anniversary edition celebrates the continuity of a tournament that has, over the decades, preserved the qualities that define its singular character and enduring stature: a deep connection to Morocco’s history, combined with a lasting ability to bring some of the biggest names in world golf to Rabat. The event thus stands as a living expression of Moroccan heritage, a shared legacy whose memory and symbolic significance are powerfully renewed through this landmark edition.
Born of the vision of the late His Majesty King Hassan II, the event now continues, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, through the steadfast commitment of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid.
A structuring journey
This celebration is also a reminder that, over time, the Hassan II Golf Trophy has become a genuine driver of development. For more than half a century, it has supported the growth of a broader ecosystem shaped around it, through the development of infrastructure, the rise of golf tourism, the stronger visibility of the Kingdom, the gradual structuring of the sporting sector, renewed momentum for younger generations and the emergence of new talent. This jubilee confirms the civic dimension of this event, which has become a true part of the nation’s sporting heritage.
Beyond the competition itself, the Hassan II Golf Trophy is part of a broader vision, that of a true national project in which sport connects with the economy, youth, the environment and the image of the Kingdom. Faithful to Morocco’s values of hospitality and art de vivre, it helps deliver an experience that is at once sporting and deeply human.
A week of competition shaped by legends
This international reputation has also been forged at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, whose fairways have welcomed some of the most iconic names in world golf. Billy Casper holds a special place in this story. A two-time winner of the tournament, he enjoyed a particularly strong bond with Morocco. Alongside him, Gary Player, Tony Jacklin, Lee Trevino, Severiano Ballesteros, Vijay Singh, Payne Stewart, Nick Price, Pádraig Harrington, Ernie Els and many others have helped firmly embed the Hassan II Golf Trophy in the memory of international golf.
It is in this setting that a full week of competition will unfold, built around these two major golfing events.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Hassan II Golf Trophy will be played on the Parcours Rouge and will welcome 66 legends of the PGA TOUR Champions for the only stop of the circuit to be held on the African continent.
In 2025, Miguel Ángel Jiménez claimed victory following an edition marked by the strength of the field and the quality of the competition.
Completing the week’s program is the Lalla Meryem Cup, whose presence gives the event as a whole a distinctive place within the international golf landscape. Rooted in the tradition of inclusivity established by the late His Majesty King Hassan II at its creation in 1993, the tournament takes place simultaneously on the same site. Played on the Parcours Bleu, it will bring together 132 players from the elite of women’s golf as part of an event firmly established on the Ladies European Tour calendar.
At the previous edition, England’s Cara Gainer prevailed after a play-off, at the end of a tournament that once again illustrated the level of excellence and intensity that define this week of competition.
Youth carrying the legacy forward
Young people will also be part of this celebration through the Pro-Am Hassan II Kids Cup by First Tee, designed as a meaningful moment of transmission and shared experience between young players and professionals. This sequence extends the spirit of the event by connecting the legacy of the Hassan II Golf Trophy and the Lalla Meryem Cup with the momentum now being built in support of younger generations.
A responsible and sustainable approach
The Golden Jubilee also highlights a responsible approach to the development of golf, notably through the innovative management of Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, whose commitment to environmental standards and the preservation of water resources stands as an example.
This emblematic venue illustrates Morocco’s ability to reconcile sporting excellence, resource preservation and the enhancement of its natural heritage within a sustainable and carefully managed framework.
A Jubilee that inspires
On the occasion of this 50th edition, the Hassan II Golf Trophy reaffirms its purpose: to inspire younger generations, enrich the nation’s sporting heritage and continue to raise the Kingdom’s colours ever higher.
The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association therefore invite the public, golf enthusiasts and all stakeholders across the sport to come and celebrate this unique moment and experience, in Rabat, a week defined by sport, history, emotion and national pride.
