Morocco to Host the Second Edition of the World School Golf Championship in Taghazout

Under the effective presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (RMGF) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association (ATH), in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education, Vocational Training and Qualification and the Royal Moroccan School Sports Federation, are organizing the second edition of the ISF World School Golf Championship (WSGC), in partnership with the International School Sport Federation (ISF). The Championship will take place from November 2 to 8, 2026, at Golf de Tazegzout in Taghazout, near Agadir, with the participation of 19 nations.

Launched in Morocco in July 2025, the WSGC marked golf’s official entry into the ISF World School Championships. The inaugural edition, held at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, brought together 64 young athletes representing 16 nations and regions across four continents. It established the foundations of an international event that combines competitive excellence, educational development and intercultural exchange.

Maître Mustapha Zine, Vice-President of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, stated: “Building on the success of the inaugural edition, the second World School Golf Championship represents another important milestone in an initiative inspired by the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid. This vision places young people at the heart of golf’s development and recognizes sport as a means of fostering education, passing on knowledge and values, and encouraging openness to the world. By once again welcoming young golfers from different countries, this time in Agadir, we aim to strengthen the momentum established in 2025 and, together with all our partners, contribute to the continued development of school golf at the international level.”

The 2026 edition will carry this momentum forward in a new destination. Following the inaugural event in Rabat, Taghazout will offer participating delegations an opportunity to experience another side of Morocco. Designed by Kyle Phillips and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Golf de Tazegzout features an 18-hole, par-72 course extending over more than 6,700 metres. The venue will provide young golfers with a setting well suited to the demands of international competition.

The Championship will be played in stroke-play format over 72 holes, comprising four rounds of 18 holes. Four individual titles will be contested in the U15 Girls, U15 Boys, U18 Girls and U18 Boys categories. In the team competition, each delegation will field four student-athletes, comprising one girl and one boy in each of the two age categories. The three lowest scores recorded by each team will count towards its daily total.

Morocco enters the second edition as the defending World School Team Champion. In 2025, Sofia Cherif Essakali, Saad Ahalouch, Mohamed Baouhamou and Salma El Hali claimed the first team title in WSGC history, finishing at 10 under par over 72 holes, ahead of Thailand and Chinese Taipei. Moroccan players also secured three individual titles, with Sofia Cherif Essakali winning the U18 Girls category, Hicham Rachidi taking the U18 Boys title and Mohamed Baouhamou claiming victory in the U15 Boys category.

Alongside the four rounds of competition, the Championship will feature a programme of activities throughout the week, including the opening ceremony, ISF Academy sessions, a cultural day, Nations Night and the closing ceremony. These activities reflect the WSGC’s distinctive approach, which brings together three complementary pillars: sport, education and cultural exchange.

The second edition also forms part of a long-term partnership under which Morocco is scheduled to host the Championship in 2025, 2026 and 2028. Through their continued commitment to the WSGC, the RMGF and its partners seek to strengthen ties between golf and the school community, expand opportunities for young people to engage with the sport and support its development internationally.
