Under the effective presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (RMGF) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association (ATH) are organizing the 20th edition of the Throne Cup, to be held from July 28 to August 2, 2025, at the Royal Country Club of Tangier.
True to its tradition of rotating venues, the Throne Cup returns to the north, specifically to the fairways of the Royal Country Club of Tangier, the birthplace of Moroccan golf. Over a century old, this course, designed at the end of the 19th century, is the first golf club in the Mediterranean basin and one of the oldest in Africa.
This 20th edition marks a return to the original format of the competition, exclusively reserved for the sporting elite of Moroccan clubs. Twelve clubs will compete to succeed Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, the defending champion who won on home turf in a special edition. As a reminder, under the High Instructions of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, the competition has continued to evolve, welcoming juniors in 2023 and integrating seniors in 2024 for an edition that united all levels and all ages. It is worth noting that since then, these two categories have had their own dedicated events on the national calendar.
Year after year, the Throne Cup grows in intensity and quality. Driven by values of fair play, team spirit, and belonging, it now gathers the Kingdom’s top golfers, many of whom are ranked in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). A true barometer of national level, the competition also reflects the rise of club academies, which are training a new generation of players and increasingly feeding the participating teams. Clubs have also strengthened their structures, organizing their squads to meet the challenge of what has become the premier team championship.
For two decades, the Throne Cup has owed its longevity to the dedication of clubs and the players who are its main protagonists. Their continued commitment is a testament to the collective attachment to this competition, now a flagship event in Moroccan golf.
See you at the Royal Country Club of Tangier to celebrate twenty years of passion, competition, and golfing pride.
