Morocco at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships

The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) has announced Morocco’s official participation in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC), organized by the International Golf Federation.

The competitions will take place at the Tanah Merah Country Club, on the Tampines course, in Singapore:

•    Espirito Santo Trophy (women): October 1-4, 2025

•    Eisenhower Trophy (men): October 8-11, 2025

Morocco will be represented by six players, all from the federal “Road to The Tour” program, designed to support young talent in reaching the highest level.

• Women’s team: Maria Harrouch, Sofia Cherif Essakali, Rim Imni

• Men’s team: Hugo Mazen Trometter, Adam Bresnu, Alexandre El Khomri

This selection reflects both continuity and renewal. Hugo Mazen Trometter, the first Moroccan to win an NCAA Division I tournament in the United States, will represent the Kingdom for the second time. Alongside him, Adam Bresnu, ranked 88th in the world by the WAGR and author of remarkable performances on the professional circuits, will compete in his first WATC. Young Alexandre El Khomri, a product of the national talent pool and the Road to The Tour program, is also making his debut in the competition.

In the women’s competition, Sofia Cherif Essakali, African champion at just 15 years of age and already present in 2023, will be joined by Rim Imni, also selected for the previous edition, both of whom trained as part of the Road to The Tour program. Maria Harrouch, who competes on the American university circuit, completes the women’s team and continues her development within the same federal program.

Full qualification

Thanks to the WAGR rankings of its two best players, Morocco has qualified outright for the 2025 edition. This presence among the world’s 36 best nations is testament to the steady progress of national amateur golf.

At the 2023 edition in Abu Dhabi, Morocco achieved its best ever results: 23rd place for the women and 24th for the men.

A very high-level field

The WATC brings together the best international teams, with 36 men’s teams and 36 women’s teams. The top 10 nations from 2023 and the host country, Singapore, automatically qualify, with the remaining places allocated according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking, guaranteeing an elite field.

In 2023, the United States won the Eisenhower Trophy with Nick Dunlap, David Ford, and Gordon Sargent, all of whom were in the world’s top five amateurs at the time and are now professionals on the PGA Tour. The Republic of Korea won the Espirito Santo Trophy.

Looking ahead to 2027

Morocco will host the next edition of the WATC in 2027 at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.

About the WATC

The World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) are organized every two years by the International Golf Federation (IGF). They consist of two events:

•    the Eisenhower Trophy (men), created in 1958,

•    the Espirito Santo Trophy (women), created in 1964.

Each competition brings together 36 national teams composed of two to three players. The format is 72-hole stroke play, with the two best daily scores counting towards the team’s score.

The WATC is the most prestigious showcase for amateur golf worldwide. Around 70% of the golfers competing in the 2024 Olympic Games had already taken part in this competition, demonstrating its crucial role in the transition to the professional circuit.
