Morocco has taken the lead in the All Africa Challenge Trophy after the second round, with a combined score of -6. The Moroccan team now holds a four-shot advantage over South Africa, the leader after the first round.
Sofia Cherif Essakali delivered an outstanding performance on Friday, carding a superb -6 to bring her total to -9. The individual leaderboard leader, she has created a commanding seven-shot gap over South Africa’s Kesha Louw (-2), who shared the lead with her the day before. The Moroccan star dominated her round with seven birdies, applying relentless pressure that unsettled her opponents.
Kenya’s Bianca Ngecu and South Africa’s Lisa Coetzer are tied for third at even par. Morocco’s Rim Imni also impressed, securing a respectable fifth place at +3.
Morocco is now well-positioned to make history in African women’s golf.
